Our Lady of America

Our Lady of America refers to reported apparitions and communications of the Blessed Virgin Mary to a religious sister, Mildred Marie Neuzil, of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood, in the United States beginning in the 1950s. In these private revelations the Virgin is said to have called the people of America, and especially its families and its youth, to a renewal of purity, holiness, and devotion, presenting herself under the title of Our Lady of America, the Immaculate Virgin, and asking that a statue and medal be made and a shrine established.

The message stressed personal holiness, the sanctity of the home, and reparation for the sins of impurity, holding out the promise of peace and blessing for the nation that would heed the call to conversion. The devotion has been promoted by some in the Church and permitted for private devotion, but it should be noted that it has not received a definitive formal approval as an authenticated apparition from the competent Church authority, and its canonical status has been a matter of discussion. It is offered here as an object of private devotion within the Church.
