St. Gyaviira Musoke

St. Gyaviira Musoke was one of the Martyrs of Uganda, a young page at the court of King Mwanga II of Buganda who received the Catholic faith among the Christian pages and remained faithful when it became a crime to profess Christ.

Condemned in the persecution of 1886, he was among the young men led on the march to Namugongo and burned alive there on 3 June 1886, dying with St. Charles Lwanga and his fellow pages rather than deny his faith. Canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1964, he is celebrated among the Uganda Martyrs on 3 June.
