CrucisSt. Noe Mawaggali
St. Noe Mawaggali was one of the Martyrs of Uganda, a convert of the court of King Mwanga II of Buganda who worked as a potter and was zealous in sharing the Catholic faith with others, refusing to flee or hide when the persecution of 1886 began.
Unlike the pages burned at Namugongo, Noe met his death apart from them: at Mityana he was speared and hung upon a tree, then left to die of his wounds and torn by dogs on 31 May 1886, bearing his sufferings in steadfast faith. Canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1964, he is celebrated among the Uganda Martyrs on 3 June.
