The Angel of Peace

The Angel of Peace refers to a heavenly messenger who, according to the account of the Fátima visionary Lúcia dos Santos, appeared three times to the three shepherd children, Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta, in 1916, the year before the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to prepare their souls for what was to come. Calling himself the Angel of Peace and the Angel of Portugal, he came to teach the children to pray and to make reparation for sin.

In his visits he prostrated himself to the ground and taught the children prayers of adoration and reparation, above all a prayer beginning "My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love You," and he urged them to offer sacrifices and prayers for the conversion of sinners. In his final appearance he gave them Holy Communion, bearing a chalice and a Host from which drops of blood fell, and taught them a prayer of reverence and love for the Most Holy Eucharist. These preparatory visions form part of the wider Fátima events approved by the Church, and they underscore its call to prayer, penance, and Eucharistic devotion.
