Padre Pio’s Warning for Our Times

Shortly before his death on September 23, 1968, St. Padre Pio watched a world changing rapidly around him.

Faith was weakening, traditional morality was increasingly rejected, and confusion was spreading even within the Church.

His response was not complicated: return to Christ, take sin seriously, guard your soul, remain faithful to the truth, and pray.

More than half a century later, his warnings remain strikingly relevant.

1. "Can't You See the World Is Catching on Fire?"

Padre Pio reportedly once asked his spiritual daughter Cleonice Morcaldi:

"Can't you see the world is catching on fire?"

He understood the Christian life as a genuine spiritual battle. For Padre Pio, Satan was not a metaphor. Temptation was real. Hell was real. Sin had eternal consequences.

His warning remains important today: you cannot fight a spiritual battle if you refuse to believe one exists.

But the answer is not fear. It is grace: Confession, the Eucharist, prayer, sacrifice, and a life rooted in Christ.

2. Guard What Enters Through Your Eyes

Long before smartphones, social media, and pornography became available at the touch of a screen, Padre Pio understood how powerfully images can affect the soul.

He warned against forms of entertainment that brought impurity and harmful influences into Christian homes.
